Audi R8 Road Car.

The (almost) mass produced German Supercar.

About The Car

The Audi R8 is an immense Supercar and can quite easily outrun it's main competitors, including the Nissan GT-R. It's developers, the German company Audi, released the main wave of production back in 2008, to keep up with the likes of Jaguar's new XK and Lotus' Elise and Exige, the more high-spec model of the very popular sports car. The R8 has a longitudinally mounted mid-engine and is four-wheel-drive. It is only available at the moment as a 2-door coupe or the more fancy convertible or 'droptop'. It was introduced in 2006 by AUDI AG and the fundimental construction and shape of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame and uses an aluminium monocoque. It also rivals the Italian manufacturer Lamborghini's extremely successful supercar the Gallardo which was introduced in the time of around about the point of 2004. Performance is pretty similar but in some cases, people would debate that the Gallardo is better than the R8 or vice-versa.

The main road car was based on the original Audi Le Mans Quattro, announced and introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003, the strange thing was the that the road car was actually based on the race car which I find a bit weird, but oh heck. The R8 was officially introduced at the Paris Auto Show on the 30th September 2006. There was (and I found this a bit weird too) a bit of confusion with names as the road car had pretty much identical badges to the Le Mans Prototype or LMP that Audi produced earlier on called also the R8. The fact is though, that really today Audi have changed the name of the LMP to R10. But what is now more confusing is that they are using another type of LMP now in the 24 hour races called the R15. A similar car to the R10 apart from the fact that it's had a face-lift and they've added 5 to the name. Nicely done, Audi.

The car comes into dealers at a 'relatively cheap price' today at around the £65,000 mark. It cost around 28 million euros for Audi to produce in the first place and they now have the trouble of producing the V10 model...yes...the V10 model. Audi originally shoved V8 in the engine bay but now they've tried as hard as they can to produce a specially modified model capable of producing extra power. That's exaaaaaaaaaaactly what they've done 'ere. They have not reaaaaaaaaly done anything particularly spectacular to it other than that. I guess they didn't want to ruin everything by mistake...
